The Varsity Cards played 3 games at St. Xavier on Saturday, finishing 2-1 on the day. Our first game was against a much improved Upper Arlington squad. We had difficulty getting the ball in close and shots from far range fed right into their game plan. While we had some good extra man opportunities, we couldn’t capitalize on them and keep the game close. The final was 12-5 in favor of UA. Ben Sugar scored 3 times while Michael Gutman and David Allen added single scores. Jack Carlin blocked 6 shots in the goal.
The St. Charles Water Polo Team is once again conducting an Ohio State Football Score Square Game as a fundraiser. Each square costs $65, which covers the entire regular season. Each week, participants have the same square but the numbers will change. For more information about this fundraiser or to reserve your square or squares contact Betsy Decker at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The St. Charles Cardinals traveled to Worthington today in a battle of Cardinals, as we faced our namesake from Thomas Worthington. The JV game started the action, and as in our first matchup, our speed and experience pushed the game out of reach early. SC took a 8-2 lead at halftime, and then emptied the bench in the second half to allow all of our rookies to play. The visiting Cardinals held on to a 13-6 victory. Sophomores Stuart Decker and Hannes Kabelka combined for 9 goals, while Charlie Henry, John Lewis, Will Price, and Michael Gutman each scored once. Our goalies were solid all game, with both Jack Carlin and Brandon Jordan each playing two quarters and combining for 7 blocks and 3 assists. Read the full story
The Cardinals had a successful weekend at the Knight Invite in Toledo this weekend, taking 2nd and 3rd place as we split our team into White and Red squads for the weekend. While we were missing a handful of athletes for ACT testing, our strong team depth still allowed us to be successful at this strong tourney.
The Cards traveled to UA this afternoon for a JV and varsity dual game. With the JV team coming off of an Ohio Cup title, we might have come out a little overconfident against a talented opponent. The Bears took full advantage of our sluggish start, and went up 4-0 after the first quarter, the largest deficit our JV team has seen all season. Fortunately, we awoke from our slumber in the middle quarters and took a one goal lead heading into the 4th quarter. The final quarter was all SC, as we finished the game with a 14-9 victory. Five athletes scored multiple goals for the Cards, with Sophomore Stuart Decker leading the way with 5. Read the full story
The Cardinals invaded Cincinnati over the weekend, with games at both St. Xavier and Sycamore high schools. Our JV team saw their first action of the season, playing 4 games over the weekend. With 8 of our 13 JV athletes being 1st year players, we were sure to have some up and down moments early in the season as the boys are still learning the sport. Our varsity B team also played 2 games this weekend at St Xavier. Read the full story
